Preserving Nature While Expanding Public Access
The popularity of the adventurous Moab area, and more specifically, visitors camping primitively along Highway 191, necessitated the creation of Utahraptor State Park. The park covers an area of 7,480 acres and features 69 campgrounds, which include both primitive sites and developed ones. The new areas within Utahraptor State Park will serve as central camping locations for both RV and tent campers.
In addition to Moab enhancing Utahraptor State Park to expand accommodations, the project aimed to preserve its cultural, environmental, and archaeological treasures, including Dalton Wells Quarry. From the projects inception in 2019, the team tackled challenges like protecting historical foundations and accessing water from an aquifer in Arches National Park. After summer storms in 2024, improvements were made to the stormwater system, making the park better prepared for future weather events.
“The park offers opportunities for citizens within the state of Utah and surrounding areas to visit and experience Moab, as well as to learn about its history and cultural aspects,”
